#goddd pitch is a tragic villian of near-shakespearian proportions #someone who has a valid purpose in life a valid purpose for existing #and he gets no thanks for it #no acknowledgement #to hear the voices of mothers tell their children that he doesn’t exist#that there’s nothing there #that he is n o t h i n g #nothing but darkness and darkness can always be snuffed out by the light #and that’s not even touching his backstory in the novels #i cannot even describe how much it infuriates me that the marketing campaign for this movie makes it look like a silly romp #a happy fun-time story with talking animals #no. #this story is beautiful and emotional and deals with beings that exist based on belief #and what a terrifyingly strong and fragile thing belief can be #pitch is not destroyed in the end he is simply dragged back to the shadows because you cannot kill fear #he will always be in the hearts of men #and that is what makes him truly terrible: the fact that fear is what has lead to so much destruction and chaos #and there is no. killing. it. #there is no killing pitch black.
